The Top Stops Along the Best Route From Charlotte to Myrtle Beach
There are several routes from Charlotte to Myrtle Beach, but the following is the quickest and has the best stops along the way. Here is the route info so you can plan your trip accordingly!
Cheraw
Your first stop in South Carolina along the best route from Charlotte to Myrtle Beach is Cheraw. There are a few notable things to see in this small town, mainly centered around its most famous son, Dizzy Gillespie. Known for his bent trumpet and unique take on jazz music, Gillespie is well-known for pioneering the “bebop” style. The Gillespie Home Site Park has sculptures, artifacts, and artwork that honor the Jazz King and his musical accomplishments. Cheraw State Park and the Southern African American Heritage Center are also great places to immerse yourself in Eastern South Carolina’s cultural heritage.
Bennettsville
The next stop along your route from Charlotte to Myrtle Beach is only 20 minutes down the road from Cheraw. Bennettsville is one of the most beautiful Southern towns in the region, with grand buildings gracing the streets of downtown and ornate mansions lining the tree-shrouded avenues of the surrounding neighborhoods. Take a stroll through the Historic Downtown District before taking a 10-minute detour north to savor some of the best barbeque in the area. Stanton’s Barbeque & Fish Camp serves up mouthwatering smoked meats, seafood, and fixings and is the only fly-in restaurant in the Carolinas (there is a small runway adjacent to the restaurant).
Latta
The tiny town of Latta is your next stop along the best route from Charlotte to Myrtle Beach. Latta is about two and a half hours from Charlotte and one and a half hours from Myrtle Beach, making it an excellent place to spend the night. Check in to Abingdon Manor early in the afternoon so you can explore The Village and the Dillon County Museum in downtown. Taking a stroll through the surrounding neighborhoods filled with beautiful historic homes is a very relaxing way to spend the afternoon. If you want to venture 20 minutes down the road to Marion or Mullins, there are several museums and attractions that are worth checking out.
