Experience the War Between the States Museum
The War Between the States Museum is one of the most interesting and unique museums in Florence, South Carolina. This beautiful house on South Guerry Street houses an incredible selection of Civil War memorabilia.The War Between the States Museum showcases a fascinating collection of weapons, uniforms, photos, and letters. It allows visitors to take a step back in time and get a taste of Civil War history, told through the stories of soldiers and locals. A bevy of items from the Florence Stockade, which was an old prison camp for Union soldiers, is on display inside of the house. A large collection of these artifacts were donations from the nonprofit charitable organization called the Sons of the Confederate Veterans.
The War Between the States Museum is only open on Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., so make sure that you plan your trip accordingly if you want to experience this piece of Southern Civil War history.

Florence County Museum
The Florence County Museum encompasses local history, art, and more! Once you visit the War Between the States Museum, head over to this large building that sits across the street from the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center. It’s only a block from downtown, so you can take a detour through its air-conditioned halls in between shopping and dining!
There are six different exhibits showcasing a variety of local cultures. Typically, four of the exhibits consist of art produced by local artists. You’ll find everything from sculptures to oil paintings ranging from contemporary to abstract expressionism. The history portion of this museum is home to artifacts, documents, and other information about our region. It’s a great spot to immerse yourself in the local culture of Eastern South Carolina.
South Carolina Tobacco Museum
The South Carolina Tobacco Museum is home to more information on the state’s tobacco industry than you’ll find anywhere else! Equipment, a reconstructed pole barn, and blacksmith tools are just a few of the authentic artifacts on display in this museum. The building lies in downtown Mullins, which is about a 35-minute drive from Florence, and a 20-minute drive from our Inn.
Dillon County Museum
You’ll find the Dillon County Museum right around the corner from Abingdon Manor in downtown Latta. This small showcase of Dillon County history sits in the old office of the late Dr. Henry Edwards. Exhibits include a dental office, displays of cotton and tobacco agricultural memorabilia, military artifacts, and other historical documents. Similar to the War Between the States Museum, this small slice of history takes you back in time through the eyes of locals.
