What to See and Do on a Road Trip From Miami to New York

Day 1

Florida

The first day of your Miami to New York road trip only holds about five hours of driving time. We recommend breaking up the first leg with a stop at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral. The wide array of interactive and educational exhibits throughout this large complex make this a great place to get out and stretch your legs.

Hop back in your car and travel two hours north to your final destination of day one—St. Augustine. The oldest city in the U.S has a treasure trove of gorgeous Spanish revival architecture along with several amazing historical sites. Make sure you go for a stroll along the waterfront before taking a self-guided tour of Castillo de San Marcos. Then check into your room at the elegant Casa Monica in the heart of town.

Day 2

South Carolina

Day two your road trip from Miami to New York primarily consists of driving about five hours and twenty minutes. While you can squeeze in a quick trip to Savannah, we recommend that you pass by the exit and head into South Carolina. While there aren’t many places to stop along I-95 in the Palmetto State, there are a few restaurants that serve up some mouthwatering Southern specialties.

Your final stop of the day will be in Latta, SC, at Abingdon Manor. Our charming and historical boutique Inn is the perfect mix of luxury and comfort, from our spacious guest rooms to our shady, well-manicured grounds. Cap off your evening with a reservation at our restaurant for a sumptuous culinary experience. Pre-dinner cocktails and wine begin at 7 p.m. followed by our one seating at 7:30 p.m. Be sure to call ahead to make your dinner reservation in advance!

Day 3

Virginia

After a fantastic night of sleep and a delicious breakfast at our Inn, start the third day of your road trip from Miami to New York with a five hour and forty-minute drive through North Carolina and Virginia until you reach Alexandria. Here, you can check into The Morrison House Hotel before exploring the extensive collection of major monuments and museums along the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Consider taking a City Segway Tour to cover the most ground without a lot of walking!

Day 4

Maryland/Delaware/Pennsylvania

There are several ways you can divvy up the final day of your road trip. The total drive time between Washington, D.C., and New York City is four and a half hours, so you have time for one long stop or multiple short breaks.

Baltimore and Philadelphia might have more attractions, but Wilmington, Delaware, has a few hidden gems. We recommend stopping in Baltimore to eat lunch at one of the many fantastic seafood places like Nick’s Fish House (get the crab). Next, head up to Wilmington where you can stretch your legs and take a stroll around the stunning Nemours Estate. Finally, head to Philadelphia to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.

Overall, the road trip from Miami to New York on I-95 totals 20 hours and 30 minutes of driving time. Whether you stick to our itinerary or mix it up with a variety of stops along the way, there are many ways to make your journey an adventure!
