Your Road Trip From Florida to Washington, D.C.

Day 1

Florida

The length of your road trip from Florida to Washington, D.C. depends on your starting point in the Sunshine State. If you’re in Miami, we recommend stopping at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral for a fun and educational experience at this incredible complex. Special tours of the actual launch pads across the cape are available for those wanting to get up close and personal with this famed NASA installation.

Next, travel about two hours north to St. Augustine, where you can check into the beautiful Casa Monica before exploring the historic quarters of the city. Exploring Castillo de San Marcos and the architecture of Flagler College are musts during your time here.

Day 2

Georgia

If you’re beginning your road trip from Florida to Washington, D.C. from North Florida, this will be your first day of the road trip. Regardless of your starting point, head north on I-95 for two hours and 45 minutes to the Savannah, Georgia. This historic town oozes with Southern charm. It’s many squares, cemeteries, and beautiful riverfront make this one of the most unique cities along the East Coast. Taste an array of Southern flavors for lunch at The Olde Pink House and take a tour of St. Bonaventure cemetery before driving into South Carolina.

South Carolina

You’ll travel along I-95 through the Palmetto State for three hours until you reach the quaint town of Latta. This is your final stop of day two of your Florida to Washington, D.C. road trip. Day 3

North Carolina

The only stop in the Tarheel State on your road trip from Florida to D.C. is in the city of Fayetteville. Here you’ll find the Airborne and Special Operations Museum. This fascinating collection of exhibits highlights a variety of missions from the D-Day invasion to the Gulf War.  

It’s only an hour from Abingdon Manor, so most of this day consists of driving.

Virginia

Whether you want to stop in Richmond on your way from Florida to Washington, D.C. depends on if you need to stretch your legs. I-95 snakes right through downtown so you can quickly exit and go for a walk on Belle Isle on the scenic James River. Or, you can drive through Richmond and stop outside of Fredericksburg at Spotsylvania National Military Park for a taste of Civil War history. Either way, you’re within a couple of hours of D.C. so you can drive through to beat the traffic around the city.
