Places to Stop on a Road Trip to Florida

Massachusetts

Boston

Our first stop along I-95 southbound is the great city of Boston. This historic city bordering Massachusetts Bay has plenty of character in addition to excellent food, a legendary brewery, top-notch sports, and nightlife galore. You could easily spend a full week here and still not cover most of the city, so here are a couple of highlights for a small taste of what Boston has to offer:

Rhode Island

Newport

The smallest state in the U.S. squeezes a lot into its tiny borders, but The Breakers in Newport is simply a fascinating place to stop at during your road trip to Florida. This grand mansion built by the Vanderbilt family in 1893 looks out over the Atlantic Ocean from its stone bluff. The opulent interior and stunning grounds make this gorgeous home look like its straight out of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby.

Virginia

Richmond

The capital city of Virginia is usually forgotten when compared to Washington D.C. to the north, but Richmond rewards travelers that stop here on their way down I-95. In addition to a nice list of accommodations, Richmond has plenty of great places to eat and several nature parks around the city. It’s also a great way to avoid all of the traffic headaches caused by D.C.

South Carolina

Latta

Most travelers driving through South Carolina don’t even realize that the small and charming town of Latta sits just 10 minutes from I-95 and provides a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the highway. Abingdon Manor completes your smalltown experiences with a fantastic dining experience and beautifully designed rooms. Relax and rejuvenate with us before completing the final stretch of your road trip to Florida.

Georgia

Savannah

Your last place to stop on a road trip to Florida, Savannah packs in plenty of top seafood restaurants, beautiful sights, and fascinating history into its 18th-century streets. Take a stroll along the picturesque Savannah River before exploring the cobblestone streets and famous squares. Movie and pop culture buffs will want to stop by Chippewa Square to see where the bench scenes in “Forrest Gump” took place.
